Hopefully, Florida will still exist after hurricane Milton makes its way through a large portion of the state.
Hurricane Milton is rapidly intensifying. It’s moving into a part of the Gulf where conditions are nearly perfect for intensification. Chances are high Milton will be a Cat 4 (or possibly Cat 5) within 24 hours. After that, and before landfall, Milton will run into significant shear and should begin to weaken. However, even with the forecast weakening, Milton will be a powerful hurricane when it makes landfall in Florida. Not IF, WHEN it makes landfall in Florida.

This is the second Hurricane this season. Hopefully it will be the last as we are supposed to get to Oak Alley around the 20th of October. Hopefully, Oak Alley will still be our luxury resort.
I’ve had such a busy summer, helping with babysitting my wonderful Great Grand Children. But also, a summer filled with health issues for both Hubby and me.
If my readers, family and friends are reading my blog, you will be surprised to hear the many events that pretty much ruined our travel summer. When I say “many”, I am not exaggerating.
- Hubby had what we thought was a wound on his driving ankle. We thought it was not healing due to his diabetes. We made Hubby an appointment with the wound center, and they recommended Hubby get a biopsy. Thankfully we were able to get in quickly to see our dermatologist. Dr. Jen did the biopsy and sent it away. The following day, Hubby was in so much pain in his ankle, he could not stand on that foot. We went back to see Dr. Jen and she prescribed an antibiotic and gave him a steroid shot. It took a few days for the pain to go away and enable him to be able to walk on his foot.
- The biopsy came back, and it was a Squamous cell carcinoma. Dang, he has had them previously removed on his back and arms, but never on his legs, ankles or feet.
- We were also told to see his Mohs Surgeon because it needed to be surgically removed.
- We decided we were not able to travel this summer, so we cancelled our reservations for our summer travels. We got most of our deposits back. We did not get our deposit back of $400 for our month stay reservation at Daisy Barn Campground located in NY on Lake Onterio. They didn’t care that Hubby was having surgery.
- I had been having problems with two of my back teeth. I made an appointment with my dentist (family owned) and my niece who is a dental hygienist cleaned my teeth and took x-rays. The x-rays showed an infection. Before I could get the two back teeth pulled, the infection set in and my cheek looked like I had a golf ball in my mouth and the pain was so bad that I ran into CVS pharmacy, bought numbing cream and when I got in the car, I rubbed it all over my back teeth. I got an antibiotic which took away the pain. I then had to go to an oral surgeon. He prescribed a pill that I had to take a half hour before my appointment to relax me. My niece Lindsay drove me to my appointment. During my appointment, I was given laughing gas. The relaxation pill affected me so bad they had to take me out in a wheelchair.
- Being around family was fun but the kids all had some type of illness. I got sick. Real sick. Guess what? I gave my sickness to Hubby. Hubby ended up with Pneumonia and had to stay a few days in the hospital. Hubby was released on Oxygen. Thankfully, he did not have to stay on Oxygen longer than a week at home.
- Hubby and I both got over our illnesses and then I came down with something again and unfortunately, I passed it onto Hubby. Hubby’s heart rate jumped from very low to very high when we took him to the hospital when he had Pneumonia. It happened again and we were back at the hospital. This time, he was released a few hours later with Covid. WTF?
The owners of the campground we are in helped us immensely. When Hubby could not walk and was in so much pain that he had a hard time functioning, they got us a site where we could stay for the whole summer season. Hubby’s brother and nephew came and moved our 5th wheel to our new seasonal site for us.
KNOCK ON WOOD….. We are both back to normal. Well, pretty much so. We are leaving in 10 days to head south. The path of this hurricane will hit our RV resort. So many “what ifs”. What if the interstate 75 is messed up on our trip south? What if our resort is destroyed? What if another hurricane starts in the gulf after we get to Florida?
This hurricane image shows the worse will be a little south of Oak Alley, our RV resort. I hope it goes even further south.

All of my Florida friends, you all are in my prayers. Hopefully you will all leave Oak Alley and go to safer grounds.
